Castello Regiomontano di Racamulto - Venus, The Goddess of Love was born in Sicily (of course).  It is the most fantastic of all the Mediterranean islands. Once the central location of the known civilized world, Sicily was always the greatest treasure that European, African and Persian empires wanted for their very own.  Nearly 3,000 years of history are on this island (roughly the size of New Jersey).  There are stone ruins, temples of ancient people, monastaries, outdoor theaters, ampitheaters and endless vineyards and olive groves.

March 2019: Toledo, Spain

Museo Convento de los Capuchinos  -  built in 1725, in the town where Cervantes married the esquiviana Catalina de Salazar y Palacios.

Toledo – the city of three cultures is both La Mancha's and Spain's historical and cultural heart, former Spanish capital and still the religious seat of the nation. It is known as the city of three cultures due to the influence of its successive Islamic, Hebrew and Christian occupants.

The Vatican soon recognized Toledo as a crucial seat for the Church of Spain, and a long line of cardinals followed. Religious tolerance was practiced for several centuries as Christians adopted many elements of Arabic and Jewish culture, and the city flourished.

May 2019: Sicily, Italy

Palazzo Giandalia gallery - Thanks to its geographical location, Sicily has always played a mediating role between East and West, which is also reflected in its art. Phoenician, Arab and Byzantine monuments, excavations and art can be found here, as well as mosaics and Roman villas, Norman castles and cathedrals and whole Baroque cities.

Sicily is the largest Mediterranean island, is just off the "toe" of Italy's "boot." Its rich history is reflected in sites like the Valley of the Temples, the well-preserved ruins of 7 monumental, Doric-style Greek temples, and in the Byzantine mosaics at the Cappella Palatina, a former royal chapel in capital city Palermo. On Sicily’s eastern edge is Mount Etna, one of Europe’s highest active volcanoes.
